Meet The Horses
JPJP is 17 years old and was born in Holland. He had a varied career that involved a bit of dressage and jumping before an arthritic back and hocks put paid to his ridden work. JP's new job as a therapy horse suits him down to the ground. He gets to interact with people, teaching them how to act kindly and communicate assertively.
MurphyMurphy is a 14.1hh cob in his late teens who has done a bit of everything, including showing. He retired for a while but, without a job to keep him busy, he started to suffer with laminitis. Now, he has a whole new lease of life. He does both therapeutic groundwork and riding sessions. His calm and unflappable temperament means that he's a natural at working with even the most challenging young people.
XataXata is a 15hh, 13 year old Lusitano who was originally imported from Portugal. She used to be a broodmare until a skin condition called Sarcoids made feeding her babies increasingly uncomfortable. Now, she is JP's best friend and likes to mother the Shetland ponies. She is a kind, calm and friendly horse who excels at horse agility and is not afraid of any obstacle!
SproutSprout, a 12 year old miniature Shetland, is our longest serving serving therapy pony. He may be tiny but he is vitally important to our work. He has helped hundreds of children over the years and some of his achievements include helping children who are mute to begin speaking and bringing isolated young people together and helping them make friends.
BrynBryn, a 13.2hh Arab x Welsh pony, spent years alone in a muddy field without enough food or shelter. When he first arrived, he was aggressive to people and had no idea how to interact with other horses. Today, he is a calm, friendly youngster who loves other horses.
LeiaLeia, or to give her full name, Cuffnell's Dunlin, is a pure bred New Forest pony. She arrived as semi-feral four month old foal and is now a 13.3hh pony who is not afraid of anyone or anything. She is a confident and calm therapeutic riding pony who loves to hack.
HebogTysilio Hebog y Nant or Boggy to his friends is a Welsh Section D who used to be a dressage diva. He is a friendly and affectionate horse but it takes him a while to learn to trust new people. His main job is as a therapeutic riding mount but he also enjoys working with calm, gentle people on the ground.
