Thanks to support from UnLtd, we're continuing to deliver social change in our community!

With Horses CIC has secured support and funding from UnLtd to scale up our business and help build lasting social impact. We are proud to announce our Scaling Up award from UnLtd, the UK’s foundation for social entrepreneurs. The award’s funding and tailored business support will significantly help With Horses CIC to widen its positive social impact.

With Horses is a Community Interest Company set up to ensure that people from all backgrounds can access the life-changing benefits of horses and to increase diversity in the Equine Industry. Through training scholarships and therapeutic bursaries funded with the profits from every training course, curriculum or CPD service that our customers buy, we help some of the hardest to engage young people in the UK, including those who are NEET, in care, or living with the effects of trauma, disability or discrimination, to achieve their fullest potential. We give underserved and overlooked young people time, space and opportunity to improve their life chances, whether that is by attending a fully funded therapeutic retreat where they gain confidence, communication and coping skills through interacting with horses or gaining professional training to begin an equestrian career.

Over the past year, we have given 17 fully funded scholarships to NEET young people, enabling them to gain accredited certificates in Equine Assisted Services, Ethical Horsemanship, Horse Care, Animal Care, Land-based Skills, Lived Experience Leadership and Peer Support. This year our trainees we have had a 98% pass rate. These all too often overlooked young people don't just gain qualifications - many go on to find paid work. Of this year's 17 training scholarship recipients, a quarter of have already gone on to either set up their own businesses or find paid work in the equine industry.

With Horses CIC exists opens up careers pathways in the equestrian industry to those from underrepresented communities. A recent report from the British Equestrian Federation which revealed that bullying, racism and classism are  strife in British equestrianism underlines the vital nature of our work.

  •  33% of white respondents agreed working in an equestrian environment was a viable career option, figures from black, Asian or mixed background were 6%, 10% and 16% respectively.

  • 76% said they agreed with the statement 'people like me are underrepresented in horse riding and other horse related activities.

  • Only 9% of respondents from socioeconomically underserved communities felt working in an equestrian environment was a viable career option.

This funding will enable us to capitalise on the success of our range of curricula by

creating online and onsite training courses and creating a new Approved Provider scheme. We are going to continue selling therapeutic riding instructor certification courses, offering PATH International Instructor mentoring for the first time in the UK. We will also be providing a range of branded therapeutic and training retreats, the profits which will help to fund free retreats for young people in care and young women who have experienced trauma. We also aim to expand the breadth of contracted and commissioned services. We are constantly amplifying our online presence and aim to recruit an Administration and Marketing Officer to further develop this. We will also update and improve our online practitioner hub and expand the range of courses, curricula, CPD opportunities, coaching and consultancy and educational resource downloads on offer. Without UnLtd's help, none of this would be possible!
